About the Role

The Technical Team within Nottingham School of Art & Design is looking to expand its team of technical bank staff to provide support in 3D Making, Stores and Lens Based Media. This is a casual role with no fixed hours and supports the team during busy periods, evenings and/or weekends. 

As a Senior Technician, you will work under the direction of the Technical Specialist for the area and/or your Technical Team Leader to provide support to students. Senior Technicians support undergraduate and postgraduate students during workshops and self-directed study, creating a positive and encouraging environment. This may involve delivering inductions and technical demonstrations as well as the day-to-day management of the workshop. You will work with students across various skill levels. The post holder will be responsible for the safe use of the workshop, equipment and machinery upkeep

You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently within a team. You will be able to communicate ideas of a complex and technical nature to students, using a variety of methods and have detailed knowledge of the workshop and/or industry experience. 

Experience is essential in any of the following areas: 

Working with a variety of materials to realise a design concept. Wood, Plastic, Metal, and Foam  Building Set, Props and Exhibition furniture  Operation of fixed and portable workshop equipment including supervisory responsibility  Managing health and safety in a busy workshop environment. Educational experience beneficial Digital making using CNC Routers, Laser Cutters, 3D printers CAD skills to create, edit and problem solve files in a variety of formats  Professional cameras used for photography and filmmaking  Knowledge and experience of lighting & sound recording techniques for film/video production in both studio and outdoor locations.  Photography and Film editing & post-production
