Job overview

The Oncology Clinic Coordinator role has been designed to ensure consistent delivery of outpatient clinics held primarily with the Macmillan Cancer Unit.

The postholder will maintain existing clinic templates and produce new templates to maximise outpatient productivity and efficiency and will work to support activity for patients being cared for under both MCHFT and The Christie Hospitals on the Leighton site. 

The purpose of this role is to support the efficient organisation and running of Oncology outpatient clinics.

The postholder will also support the Oncology Secretarial Team by undertaking administrative tasks.

Main duties of the job

An example of duties will be:

Reviewing clinic slot utilisation. Amending clinic templates. Monitoring ASI’s & management of escalations. Answer appointment enquiries. Making New and FU appointments. Cancel/set-up clinics.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The results in the 0 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with % of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will work with clinical colleagues within Breast, Lung, Colorectal, Urology and Haematology and will perform a range of administrative functions which facilitates the delivery of clinical activity. 

You will be required to work across a range of IT systems belonging both the Trust and tertiary providers for which MCHFT supports service delivery, for example Careflow and the Christie Web Portal as well as PCS.

It is expected that the post holder can work autonomously, using their own initiative and within a specialised team.

The post holder is expected to be experienced within the hospital setting with some knowledge of specialised terminology, educated to a level required to perform the role or equivalent experience.

The post holder will actively support and contribute to the requirements of the service and ensure compliance with performance targets and quality standards required at a local and national level.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE/ PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

Good General Education with GCSE English and Mathematics ECDL or equivalent IT experience Relevant Health or Social Care experience Good knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of relevant diagnostics, interventions and terminology. Awareness of the need for confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection Act and national/local guidelines

Desirable criteria

Knowledge/experience using booking systems in a medical context Advanced ECDL modules or equivalent Supervisory/management skills
