Job summary
This post is a key role within the 24/7 Mental Health First Response service and will be the first point of contact for people who may require urgent mental health support.
Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners provide effective mental health support to people calling the service who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. This may include triage and risk assessments, and brief psychosocial interventions.
Working via telephone and video calls, Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners will provide effective emotional support for people through the use of compassionate conversations and, when appropriate, encourage and guide effective self-management of emotional distress.
Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners will be able to recognise when a person requires more support than is possible to be delivered over the phone, such as a crisis mental health assessment or ongoing support and be confident to make the necessary arrangements to facilitate this with an appropriate registrant, clinician, service or organisation.
There is no appointment system, the work is fast paced and varied. No shift will be the same and the ability to think on your feet is important. All triages will be electronically sent through to GP surgeries upon completion.
The senior mental health practitioners are the shift leaders and will offer support, reflection, development and mentoring to practitioners on the shift.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, triage and onward referral when appropriate, of individuals accessing the Lincolnshire Mental Health 111 urgent access team.
The post holder will provide Triage, assessment information, professional advice, and support to individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis - it will also provide professional device and support to other agencies and clinical teams and will also support the Here 4 You helpline outside of core post holder will provider management and clinical supervision to others and will act as shift coordinator.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To provide a high standard of clinical care ensuring safe and effective clinical assessment and triage using highly developed clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment tools.
To work flexibly across a 7-day-a-week service.
To ensure the clinical practice is of the highest standard of clinical care.
To manage patient contacts and service delivery in accordance with and in order to contribute towards the attainment of Service/Trust productivity requirements.
To ensure up to date risk assessments are in place as appropriate to the telephone contact.
Work with individuals to assess their mental health, recognise mental illness and identify their related needs and circumstances.
To assess carers and familys needs where possible and appropriate
Protect people from abuse, neglect and harm.
To work collaboratively and promote effective working relationships with other clinical teams within LPFT, ensuring effective and appropriate clinical decision-making.
To provide cover for crisis team calls and the co-ordination of response, as and when required.
To maintain accurate and timely clinical records and risk assessments, and to co-ordinate and monitor those of the team.
To provide support to the Here 4 You helpline outside of core working hours
To adhere to or other relevant codes of professional conduct and ethics, plus associated legislation.
To develop clinical practice having due regard to Department of Health and other guidelines.
To demonstrate empowering leadership skills within the Tier 2 Helpline team and seek opportunities in local and national area as to promote and develop the profession.
To participate in Clinical Governance activities, including: induction, supervision, personal development review, health and safety, risk management and audit.
To provide supervision and support to the Single Point of Access team as appropriate.
To undertake specific project work or any other duties as negotiated with the team co-ordinator.
Develop effective and supportive links with other health and social care staff. To create networks that improve the pathway of care for clients accessing the helpline.
Participate in all clinical governance and audit developments including post registration education, training and continuing professional development.

Relevant experience of working with adults with mental health needs. Or clear evidence of substantial experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both the community/in-patient.
