Avantor is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Laboratory Technician to join the team based in Cambridge, UK . In this role you’ll take on responsibilities of laboratory housekeeping, indirectly supporting our client's scientists. 

Previous experience in a scientific or laboratory environment, and/or a scientific degree is not a requirement for this role We’ll consider applicants from other industries as full training is provided.

This role will be a full-time, permanent position based at the customer site - Anne McLaren Building, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. The laboratory is located in the AMB (Anne McLaren Building) building, but you'll be required to go to The Discovery Centre on a daily basis too (7 mins walk) . Next to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits such as pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and additional day off for your birthday.

Important: This role includes working within an in-vivo environment.

Working hours

Monday to Thursday, 8:30 - 17:00 and Friday, 8:30 – 16:00 

The team

You'll work alongside other Laboratory Technicians, who support laboratory operations. You will belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we're looking for

Education : GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent) and an interest in science 

Experience:

Full training will be given, previous experience in pharmaceutical/food manufacturing environment desirable but not essential

Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions 

Computer Literate 

Process driven and high level of attention to details 

How you'll thrive and create an impact

Maintenance of laboratory consumable inventory, identifying alternative products to roll out in the event of supply issues and daily consumable replenishment, utilising site inventory system

Biological & chemical waste management

Receipt and unpacking of cell and biological samples deliveries, including temperature sensitive and materials with special handling/storage requirements

Routine decontamination of incubators, water baths, class II cabinets and other equipment on site

Management of pipette inventory and organisation of calibration schedules
