Job summary

The post holder will work as a bank HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. They will primarily work in Biochemistry Automation and should acquire the necessary laboratory experience. Their responsibilities will include performing analytical and technical validity of investigations, shadowing other biomedical scientists, and collaborating with clinical staff to ensure prompt action on abnormal diagnostic results. The individual will be expected to work at Morriston Hospital, Singleton Hospital, and Princess of Wales Hospital on a rotational basis. Furthermore, they are expected to maintain personal and professional development, remain competent as a Biomedical Scientist, and participate in additional training activities.

Main duties of the job

Candidates should possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individuals and teamwork. Flexibility, self-motivation, and practical skills will be fundamental to your role. You will use your knowledge and skills as a biomedical scientist to contribute to a robust and fully operational system in laboratory medicine. You will assist in building a strong team and support the Senior Biomedical Scientists to enable continual improvements in the various departments. An understanding of good laboratory practice and ISO15189 quality management is desirable.

Your duties as a Biomedical Scientist will include performing a range of scientific procedures involving the processing of specimens to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and investigation of pathological processes.

You will be required to;

Support and advise laboratory support worker colleagues. Prioritise investigations in accordance to clinical need, ensuring optimum turnaround for urgent requests. Manage emergency requests, single or multiple. Liaise with IT and specialist equipment suppliers to resolve system or equipment failures To respond to Major incident procedures should the need arise Once competent, train other new staff and trainees.
