Accountabilities

In this exciting role you will be responsible for managing a team of 13 to 15 operatives and you will be overseeing both planned and unplanned maintenance of the Class 395 fleet at Ashford Train Maintenance Centre. This is a permanent role working in rotating shift pattern.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Manage maintenance team activities to ensure production and train service requirements are achieved to meet performance targets. Responsible for ensuring maintenance is executed to plan. Control all train moves entering / exiting the maintenance shed in coordination with the TMTL, PICT, drivers, and DP personnel. Ensure all work completed is captured on Equinox and all parts, materials, and equipment are booked out and returned to the stores as required. Manage team competency for new entrants, specialist equipment users, and safety critical procedures. Manage and promote good behaviours to comply with SSHEQ and best industry practices in the workplace. Carry out accident / incident investigations and support the Production Managers through the use of root cause analysis. Support management with the selection and recruitment of new and promoted employees. Encourage depot continuous improvement initiatives. Responsible for team member motivation and development Ensure good housekeeping and waste management procedures are adhered to. Manage staff leave, minor disciplinary issues, return to work interviews, appraisals, and probations. Manage all issues that arise outside office hours and contact on-call support as required. Develop professionally and support good working relationships. Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post. Carry out regular team briefings, tool box talks, and attend morning meetings and other management meetings as required Ensure all processes are carried out to protect contractors and visitors on site, including unit access and depot protection procedures. Carry out Depot Driving should business need arise. Assist with all Hitachi Business activities as required.

Education/Qualifications

M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship. Engineering based NVQ level 3. Leadership Training - ILM or similar (or working towards)

Desired Skills (not essential)

Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel Electrical/Pneumatic schematics reading. Mechanical drawing reading Train driving Fire warden First Aider
