CONSULTANT NEPHROLOGIST (8PAs)

Applications are invited for a Consultant Nephrologist post (8PA) in the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at the Royal London Hospital within Barts Health NHS Trust. This post would be ideally suited for any individual wishing to develop an interest in peritoneal dialysis and general nephrology. The successful applicant will also join the renal-lupus clinic. 

Main duties of the job

The department is one of the largest and busiest in the UK that provides comprehensive whole-pathway renal & transplant care from the hub in Whitechapel to six networked kidney centres. It has the largest peritoneal dialysis programme with a strong academic tradition under the leadership of Dr Stan Fan. We have also been recognised as a Lupus UK centre of excellence. There is also a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. The post will provide unique opportunities to work across sites aimed at improving outcomes for our patients in East London.

Applicants should have full registration with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of their CCT.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

MB BS, or equivalent MRCP or equivalent Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Certificate of completion of training (CCT) (or proposed CCT within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR)

Desirable criteria

Training in Peritoneal Dialysis

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria

Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of renal medicine, dialysis and transplantation

Desirable criteria

Able to undertake Native and transplant renal biopsies independently without supervision. Training in medical insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters Experience in managing patients in lupus

Training Expected

Essential criteria

Higher Specialist Training in Renal Medicine Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates

Management/Audit Experience

Essential criteria

Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion

Desirable criteria

Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare. Experience of audit management. Quality improvement with respect to peritoneal dialysis and Lupus

Academic Achievements

Essential criteria

Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact. Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post.

Desirable criteria

PhD/ MD Thesis Research experience in transplantation
