As a Wind Turbine Technician in our England North team based in our Meadowfield Service Centre (DH7 8XD) every day is different and provides a real opportunity to make a difference in our ambition to help the UK achieve Net Zero.

You’ll work across multiple assets (Nordex N Series, Senvion and Vestas) to deliver scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services to our onshore wind turbine projects.

What you’ll be doing.

As a part of the Wind Turbine Technician Team, your typical day will start at 8AM to check the status of turbines within the area. Any faults or issues will be reported by our 24/7/365 monitoring centre based in France. The turbine issue reported will be accessed by yourself or one of the team with the correct spares, tooling and documentation gathered. Followed by setting to work and a Toolbox Talk for the working party.

After setting ourselves up for success with our toolbox talk, you will head out to complete any fault rectification work or planned work such as Service, Statutory compliance, HV Maintenance support, blade inspections and at times more serious work packages such as gearbox or generator replacements as and when required.

No 2 days are the same working on wind turbines and the role keeps our technicians on their toes.

Your role will be to schedule and reactive maintenance accordance with manufacturer’s guideline in addition to:

• Maintaining the highest levels of safety to comply with all health and safety requirements including the WTSR.
• Fault-finding, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on all turbine systems, which will include mechanical, electrical and hydraulic assemblies and major components.
• Scheduled service in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
• Reporting and planning daily maintenance activity.
• Coordinating local spare part and consumable stock.
• Proactive repair or component replacement to prevent complete failure or system downtime.
• Supervising specialist and subcontractor activity during main component exchange.
• Maintaining the highest levels of safety to comply with all health and safety requirements including the WTSR.
• Provide safety induction to contractors and visitors.
• Providing out of hours and weekend response to turbine breakdown.
• Ensuring the highest level of turbine availability

What do you need to be great at this role?


You’ll be a time served Engineer (electrical/mechanical) with a primary focus on ensuring operations and maintenance activities are undertaken to the highest levels you’ll ideally hold a AT/AE qualification under Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) and have significant technical expertise gained through a blend of academic (Electrical or Mechanical HNC/HND/NVQ) and “hands on” operational environments. 
• HNC in mechatronics or equivalent.
• Qualification in electrical and/or mechanical disciplines to NVQ3 level (or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience)
• Preferably experienced on wind turbines in a technician capacity. Knowledge of Senvion Nordex N series and Vestas wind turbine projects in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines.
• Knowledge of Siemens, Vestas MW machines and/or Nordex N series will be a plus
• High level of physical fitness and good health
• Previous accreditation as AT/AE under WTSR
• High level of computer literacy
• Technical and Commercial Knowledge and Skills
• Strong safety minded person
• Excellent analytical thinking
• Strong sense of organisation and planning


For this role you must drive and live with a 30 mile/45-minute radius of our Meadowfield Service Centre in Durham.
