Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Bournemouth
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary (with scope to become permanent)

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Bournemouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in young lives, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.

The school offers a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for young children. As a Church of England school, it integrates Christian values with a strong focus on respect, kindness, and community. The school provides a broad curriculum aimed at developing each child's academic, social, and emotional skills, ensuring a balanced approach to education.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist children with special educational needs (SEN) in their daily learning and development.
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt learning materials for individual students.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to ensure students stay on task.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Support with personal care if required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant is desirable.
  • Patience, empathy, and a caring nature.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • An understanding of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of individual students.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
