London, United Kingdom Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

Are you a motivated and innovative nurse with experience of working as a Nurse Specialist, or within the field of Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia? We are looking for a knowledgeable nurse who can bring their valuable experience with them to join a dedicated team of clinical nurse specialists. This is a position requiring excellent specialist clinical skills, as well as the leadership and management skills to lead a dedicated team of nurse specialists and support staff.

The electrophysiology (EP) team is part of the wider cardiology department. GOSH is the largest paediatric hospital in the UK offering electrophysiology studies and related procedures. The demand for electrophysiological services is increasing due to improved diagnoses and a wider range of treatment options.

The area of electrophysiology is a branch of cardiology that diagnoses and treats heart arrhythmias. The electrophysiology service offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment options in both an outpatient and inpatient setting. 23-30 patients are seen on a weekly basis in the outpatient clinics and approximately 20% of these outpatient attendances will require admission for specialised treatment under the electrophysiology team.

Main duties of the job

The CNS is responsible for the clinical co-ordination of the inpatient services, they would provide clinical support and be an expert resource for the clinical team. They would work closely with the day ward to support preadmission and keep the medical team up to date with any changes. The CNS would be the link with the catheter lab and bed management. This change in practice will also release the consultants' time to undertake the additional inpatient and outpatient work.

The CNS would also offer expert support and education for the community teams, the GOSH network and the children's schools, as well as ensuring safe transition both from primary to secondary school and then onto adult cardiac services, ensuring that there is no loss to follow up, an area of concern highlighted in the recent cardiac review by NHSE.

You will work within a wider team, composed of cardiologists with an interest in paediatric and adult inherited cardiac conditions, specialist nurses, cardiac technicians, clinical psychologists, geneticists and administrative staff. You will be expected to have excellent skills to support the whole family throughout the process of screening, diagnosis and on-going care..

We will support your clinical development and will provide a tailored educational pathway.
