SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time in Chorlton-cum-Hardy

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This is a full-time position starting in December, continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The pay for this position is between £419.25 and £500 per week, depending on experience.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your role will be to support students with additional educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum and succeed in their learning environment. This role is particularly suitable for individuals with experience or interest in working with students who have learning difficulties, disabilities, or other special needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 1:1 and Group Support: Provide targeted support to students with SEN, either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, assisting them in understanding and completing classwork.
  • Tailored Learning: Adapt teaching materials to meet the individual needs of students, ensuring they can engage with the lesson and make progress in their studies.
  • Classroom Assistance: Work alongside the classroom teacher, assisting in delivering lessons and managing the classroom environment to ensure that SEN students can participate fully.
  • Behaviour Management: Help manage and support positive behaviour in the classroom, using strategies tailored to the individual needs of SEN students.
  • Pastoral Support: Offer emotional and social support, helping students with SEN to build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.
  • Progress Monitoring: Keep detailed records of student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed and communicating this to the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Safeguarding: Follow all safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students under your care.
  • Liaising with Staff and Parents: Work closely with other staff members, including teachers, SENCO, and external professionals, to ensure a collaborative approach to meeting students’ needs. This may also involve communication with parents or carers.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable, though not essential.
  • Patience and Empathy: A caring, patient individual who can build trusting relationships with students and provide emotional support.
  • Adaptability: Someone who is flexible and can quickly adjust to the individual needs of each student and the dynamic classroom environment.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Team Player: The role requires collaboration with teachers, support staff, and SEN specialists, so being able to work as part of a team is essential.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding: A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week (depending on experience)
