SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a highly rated Ofsted "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position begins in December, extending until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance. Weekly pay ranges from £419.25 to £500.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) across various aspects of their school experience. Working alongside teachers and the SEN team, you will help create a supportive, inclusive environment that allows each student to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • In-Class Support: Provide personalized assistance to SEN students within the classroom, helping them access and engage with lesson material by simplifying explanations or providing one-on-one guidance.
  • One-to-One and Small Group Work: Deliver tailored support sessions, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and social skills, adapting learning strategies to meet each student’s unique needs.
  • Behavioral and Emotional Support: Collaborate closely with students to help them manage any behavioral or emotional challenges they may face, offering encouragement, positive reinforcement, and de-escalation strategies where needed.
  • Resource Preparation: Assist with the preparation of modified resources and activities, ensuring materials are accessible and effective for SEN students.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keep detailed records of student progress, noting areas of improvement and those needing further support. Report findings to the SENCO and teaching staff to help tailor future support.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Support students in following their IEPs by aligning classroom activities and interactions with the specific goals and targets set out for each individual.
  • Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop self-confidence and autonomy, fostering their ability to complete tasks independently where possible.
  • Assist with Daily Routines: Help students navigate the school day by providing guidance during transitions, breaks, and extracurricular activities, promoting a smooth and positive school experience.
  • Encouraging Positive Social Interactions: Facilitate activities that encourage students to build positive peer relationships, helping to improve their social skills and engagement.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Experience in SEN Support: Previous experience working with SEN students in an educational setting is highly desirable, though we welcome applicants with relevant transferable skills.
  • Patience and Compassion: Able to remain calm, empathetic, and adaptable, particularly in challenging situations, and committed to providing students with a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Confident in working closely with students, staff, and parents to ensure SEN students receive consistent, effective support.
  • Organized and Attentive to Detail: Able to accurately track and record student progress, tailoring support based on individual needs.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: Proactively committed to safeguarding and student welfare, fostering a secure environment for all.
Position Details:
  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position based on performance.
