Job overview

We are looking for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and outstanding Nurse Practitioner to join the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit at Friarage Hospital. Our excellent team of nurse practitioners provide clinical assessment and treatment of those patients who would ordinarily have been admitted to hospital as an emergency. 

You will have significant post-registration experience, be a non-medical prescriber and have advanced clinical skills to help you effectively manage patients in the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.

Consideration will be given to those applicants who do not have the non medical prescribing as a development post (Band 6 trainee Nurse Practitioner post)

Experience of working within an emergency assessment unit or urgent treatment centre would be an advantage and we encourage informal visits to the area.

Non-Medical Prescribing and Physical Assessment skills (level 7) is essential for this role (consideration of those willing to complete in post as a trainee Nurse Practitioner Band 6 within 2 years in post).

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Practitioner within SDEC will continuously evaluate their role supporting patients with complex and urgent care needs. They will work with the area professional leads and in partnership with local consultants, nurse consultants, advanced clinical practitioners, GP practices and the local PCNs to further develop services which are of value to the commissioners and meet the local needs of the population.

The post holder will work autonomously as part of the SDEC to provide an assessment, diagnosis and undertake treatments/ interventions and care for patients with differential diagnosis by following agreed pathways. They will provide the hospital at night service, giving support to the junior medical team and the hospital site with advanced clinical skills.

The Nurse Practitioner ideally will have advanced clinical skills (minimum level 6 clinical skills) in assessment and will evidence management of acute/chronic clinical conditions, multiple co-morbidities and polypharmacy, within the acute or urgent treatment centre environment, ensuring an optimum standard of patient centred care.
