Role Overview:

As a Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the mathematics department by assisting teachers in delivering high-quality lessons and providing targeted support to students. This role is perfect for a recent maths graduate considering a career in education or looking to gain valuable experience in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Work alongside teachers to support the delivery of maths lessons, ensuring that all students are engaged and able to access the curriculum. This includes helping with lesson preparation and classroom management.

  • Individual and Small Group Tutoring: Provide focused support to students who need additional help with their maths studies. This could involve one-on-one tutoring or leading small group sessions to reinforce key concepts and address specific learning challenges.

  • Resource Development: Assist in the creation of teaching materials and resources that cater to different learning styles and abilities. Help to prepare lesson plans, worksheets, and interactive activities that make learning maths engaging and accessible.

  • Student Engagement: Work to build students' confidence in their mathematical abilities by providing encouragement, positive reinforcement, and strategies for overcoming difficulties. Help foster a positive attitude towards maths and learning in general.

  • Progress Monitoring: Support the assessment of student progress by helping to mark work, track achievements, and identify areas where students may need additional support. Provide feedback to teachers and contribute to the planning of interventions.

  • Exam Preparation: Assist students in preparing for exams by offering revision sessions, helping with practice papers, and providing guidance on effective study techniques.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A recent graduate with a degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for maths, with a desire to inspire and support students in their learning.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Patient, proactive, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Previous experience working with young people or in an educational setting is beneficial but not essential.
