We have three apprentice roles in our People Services, Finance and Operations Support, departments.

People Service Apprentice

What you will do in your working day

Your role will involve learning from and supporting the People Services Department including:

  • Confidential and accurate administration support to the People Services department.
  • Ensure the HR database is up to date with starters, leavers and contractual changes.
  • Support with recruitment campaigns (end to end) and checking and vetting and proof of right to work in the UK for new starters.
  • Successfully working with colleagues at all levels to co-ordinate learning activities and events.
  • Co-ordinate activities with external training providers and venues.
  • Ensure documents are filed accurately in employee personal files.

Finance Administration Assistant

What you will do in your working day

Your role will involve learning from and supporting the Finance Operations team including:

  • Deal with a variety of administrative tasks within the department as required to satisfy the departmental and Society objectives and provide effective support to colleagues at all levels.
  • Take ownership of personal workloads, prioritising tasks as required to meet business needs & annual Operational Plan objectives.
  • Be confident to work alone as well as be a key team player.
  • Be expected to understand the business objectives and requirements of the business plan and finance plan.
  • Provide efficient and timely support to the Finance Department to ensure the maintenance of the excellent standards of customer service offered to the members of Benenden Health.

Operational Support Apprentice

What you will do in your working day

Your role will involve learning from and supporting the Operations Support team including:

  • Sort, distribute and log incoming post and perform outgoing post duties including batch prints.
  • Scan all relevant documents to ensure member records provide a full reflection of any changes or activity.
  • Process basic membership changes and returned post (Goneaways) ensuring systems are accurately updated and relevant correspondence is sent or returned to members as required.
  • Ensure any complaints received in the incoming post are identified and recorded at the first opportunity to enable prompt resolution.

The training you will be getting

The qualification you will be working towards is a Business Administrator Apprenticeship level 3 (A level). This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as Business Administrator and will include the following:

  • Use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation in order to write letters or emails, create proposals, perform financial processes, record and analyse data.
  • Understand how to behave in a professional way including personal presentation, respect, respecting and encouraging diversity to cater for wider audiences, punctuality and attitude to colleagues, customers and key stakeholders.
  • Understand how to draft correspondence, write reports and be able to review others' work.
  • Understand how to make effective decisions based on sound reasoning and be able to deal with challenges in a sensible and appropriate way.
  • Understand how to build and maintain relationships within your own team and across the organisation.
  • Understand how to share administrative best-practice across the organisation e.g. coach others to perform tasks correctly.
  • Understand how to use relevant project management principles and tools to scope, plan, monitor and report.

Where you will study

  • You will attend York College on a day release for the duration of the apprenticeship and attend the workplace for the remainder of your contracted hours.
  • An assessor will visit you in the workplace every 8-10 weeks to discuss and monitor progress on your apprenticeship in conjunction with your line manager.


How you will be assessed

  • You will produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating examples of your work throughout the apprenticeship which will form the basis for the interview during the End-Point Assessment (EPA). Also, a project or process improvement will be completed over 21 to 35 hours during the apprenticeship which will form part of the EPA.
  • Continual assessment will take place throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
  • The End-Point Assessment (EPA) will comprise of a 60-minute computer-based knowledge test of 50 questions, a 45-minute interview based on the portfolio of evidence, and a 1015-minute presentation based on the project completed during the apprenticeship.
