Job summary

This is 12 month, 4 days per week fixed term maternity cover post based at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) with a regional remit, covering Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) and East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNFT).

There would be the expectation that the post holder would spend a third of their clinical time at each site developing services. The post will involve working with three multi-disciplinary teams and you will be an inspiring and forward-thinking Clinical Psychologist, interested in working at the forefront of Psychological Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Whilst the Spinal Cord Injuries Service is regional, the post holder would be employed by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) to work into the three hospital teams, with office space within the Psychological Medicine/Liaison Psychiatry offices in Addenbrooke's Hospital.

We have over 50 Clinical Psychologists in the Psychological Medicine Service, working across the age range, and linked with a large variety of specialties. Each Psychologist has expertise within medical specialties, and are accredited in a range of therapeutic modalities, these include CBT, CAT, IPT, ACT and CFT and EMDR, so there are many opportunities to develop skills through supervised practice.

The Principal Clinical Psychologist will exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of the psychological practice within the service and provide supervision of psychological interventions provided by other staff, as appropriate

To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

To develop psychological formulations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, and which incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural, and biological factors.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct therapies and lifespan developmental psychology Registered as Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC Undertaken training in the supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists

Desirable

Relevant post-doctoral training Chartered Clinical Psychologist (BPS)

Experience

Essential

Substantial experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment, across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings Substantial experience of working in mental health settings Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course, and the range of clinical severity. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse Experience of teaching /training and clinical supervision Able to demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision Experience of working in an outpatient physical health care and in an acute hospital setting

Desirable

Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care Experience of working within a multicultural framework An enthusiasm and/or experience for working within a systemic or interpersonal framework ( Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) or Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)

Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and treatment Management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration requiring the use of highly developed analytical and judgement skills Skills in individual and group work and in programme planning. Planning and organising skills for caseload management. Skills in self management, including time management Excellent communication skills. Able to communicate verbally and in writing, complex, highly technical and / or clinically sensitive information including contentious and highly distressing information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance Skills in providing consultation and supervision to other professional and non-professional groups Advanced IT and keyboard skills
