Job Description:

Core purpose:

To support the Inclusion Lead, Assistant Principal; Director of Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 4 tutors in managing the Key Stage 4 cohort and thereby enabling all students to achieve their full potential. You will also line manage the Pastoral Administrator.

Key Functions:

  • To advise and support the Key Stage 4 tutor and teaching team in the successful delivery of the school’s vision for individual student achievement and wellbeing
  • To provide a strong positive role model to students and help maintain a positive ethos and keep students focused on the importance of their education.
  • To support Key Stage 4 tutors on dealing with, pastoral, social, emotional and behavioural issues within Key Stage 4, in the first instance completing investigations, using restorative approaches whenever appropriate and/or recommending further action.
  • To forge strong positive relationships with parents, so that all work together in the interests of children.
  • To play a significant part in all aspects of the community life of the school
  • To be part of the team which holds significant responsibility for managing the efficient and effective day to day running day of the school.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and advice to students in line with promoting their social care and personal development with respect to learning and health and safety
  • To act as an Inclusion team member, taking active part in patrol, duties and investigations
  • Respond to and take steps to resolve relationship issues between students
  • Provide support for students around organisation, homework and independent study
  • Monitor attendance at detentions – use school systems to inform students and parents
  • Support Key Stage 4 tutors and the attendance team in following up attendance matters, including for agreed target students and contact with parents
  • Collect and collate statements relating to KS4 incidents, following up directly when appropriate
  • Issue, collect and follow up daily reports for identified students
  • Contribute to pastoral support plans
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection and all aspects of safeguarding children
  • Liaise with external agencies on behalf of the Key Stage team
  • Support Key Stage 4 tutors in liaising with families around pastoral issues on behalf of the Key Stage Team
  • Work closely with the safeguarding team to support families and complex cases
  • Attend case conferences as directed
  • Contribute to the provision and organisation of the mentoring programme to raise attainment in the Key Stage
  • Contribute to organisation of Key Stage events and programmes, including educational visits.
  • Contribute to tutorial team meetings as requested by the Assistant Principal; Director of Key Stage 4
  • Be a point of contact for Tutors
  • To support students with anxiety and stress with managing those feelings.
  • To support students with low attendance by monitoring, communication and emotional support.

  • Support the Assistant Principal; Director of Key Stage 4 and Head of Inclusion with contacting parents.
  • Attend meetings of parents and Tutors as required
  • Ensure the home-school communication is prompt and thorough.
  • Ensure contact is made to parents whenever incidents are dealt with by self or when delegated to contact by others
  • Ensure that all student records and monitoring systems are maintained appropriately in order and kept up to date.
  • Produce appropriate records of incidents dealt with – e.g. bullying, racial incidents files
  • Arrange for work to be set and collected for exclusion and other students' absence
  • Seek reports on student progress from staff
  • Dissemination of Key Stage / year group information
  • Ensure systems communications on issues such as attire, and equipment are sent and logged

  • Post 16 Qualifications / Degree

Relevant Experience

  • Experience working within an inner London school
  • A minimum of two years’ experience of working with children (either paid or unpaid capacity) preferably in an education setting and working with young people
  • Understanding of strategies needed to establish consistently high aspirations and standards of results and behaviour
  • Working with young people and their parents
  • Working with disadvantaged students
  • Experience of working within a counselling environment
  • Experience of working with students who have behavioural difficulties
  • Leading and managing a team
