London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

Job overview

We are looking for cross sectional experienced HCPC registered Radiographer to join the MRI team at the Royal London Hospital.

This post will give you the opportunity to build on your clinical expertise in MRI. Encouragement will be given to staff who wish to pursue post graduate studies in MRI.

The MRI Department is currently equipped with two Siemens 1.5T scanners ( brand new Sola and Avanto Fit) and one Siemens brand new 3T Vida scanner. Our new scanners utilised the latest Dot Engine software making them user friendly. Late last year, we benefited from the government funded AI acceleration software making our examination times quicker thereby improving on efficiency and patient experience.

You will need to demonstrate post graduate experience in cross-sectional imaging. The post holder will be involved in training of rotational radiographers in MRI , review and implementation of new scanning protocols ensuring all staff are aware of the new studies/procedures.

Diagnostic Imaging service was devolved as a Group networked services under Clinical Services to individual hospital sites in September 2021. Having reviewed our current divisional functions we have decided to create a sixth division for the growing services that the RLH and MEH are responsible for.

The candidate will be required to work full time and to participate in the extended working week rota (Monday-Friday 08:00-20:00, and 08:45-16:30 at the weekends).

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to provide high quality, effective Imaging services for the MRI department at Royal London Hospital.

The post holder will work closely with radiographers, students and clinical staff of all grades in the safe, prompt and effective imaging of inpatients and outpatients.

MRI is an extremely complex modality requiring a high degree of technical understanding to obtain diagnostic image quality in a wide range of patient presentations. Skill is required in helping patients to cope with the claustrophobic nature of the MRI environment.

Patients may present unconscious, un-cooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, or with physical and mental disabilities. Some may exhibit anti-social or threatening behaviour. It is necessary to provide empathy and emotional support to the bereaved, terminally ill, injured and traumatised.

The routine working hours for the MRI department at Royal London Hospital are currently 08:00- 20:00, Monday-Friday, excluding bank holidays.

Post holder will be expected to participate in the 24hrs, 7days/week, 365 days a year MRI on-call service for which they will be paid the agreed on-call rate and is operated on a rota system.

Post holders will also be expected to participate in the weekend lists 08:45-16:30. Currently paid on staff bank and operated on a rota system.

The post is based at the Royal London Hospital and also expected to cover other Hospital sites although this might be in very rare occasions.
