Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the hospital specialist palliative care team in Hull. The team assess & support patients with advanced life-limiting illnesses & their families, who have complex symptoms/needs. We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring medic keen to develop skills in this area of medicine. Most recent performance ratings from CQC for end of life care were "good" across all aspects and our aspiration is for our responsive service to develop and become rated "outstanding" at future inspections.

Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that the post of Specialty Doctor with the Palliative Care team will provide medical support to the clinical nurse specialists working across the Trust sites.

Participation in audit / appraisal and CME is mandatory under clinical governance / RCR / RCP / GMC guidance. Time is allowed within core SPAs to take part in audit and there is a dedicated audit lead for the department. 10 days of study leave are funded for CPD and training.

Duties other than those clinical duties specified will be in accordance with the job plan agreed between the appointee, supervising consultant, the clinical lead and the chief executive. The job plan allows for Administration, Teaching and Medical Audit.

The candidate may be required to work on any of the Trust's sites and across the seven day period where necessary.

Secretarial support and office accommodation and IT facilities will be provided.

Successful candidates will be expected to support the Trust's goals for sustainability by encouraging and adopting sustainable ideas and practices.

A standard full time Job Plan (work schedule) will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 9 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 for supporting activities (SPAs). SPAs are classed as 'core' and cover time for CPD, audit, appraisal and revalidation.
