We are looking for a candidate with a passion for training and preferably, experience in maintaining staff competencies, ensuring mandatory and statutory training requirements are met, and providing support and guidance to staff undertaking the registration and specialist portfolios.

You must be a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Biomedical Scientist and holding a post graduate qualification or equivalent in Blood Transfusion.

Please include details of your HCPC registration on your CV and in the application form and any relevant training experience or qualifications that might support your application. The successful applicant must also have strong experience in Blood Transfusion.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory and supervision of the departmental team to ensure delivery of a fit-for-purpose Blood Transfusion service at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital. Duties will include assisting in the performance of the routine diagnostic analytical work, blood group serology testing, entering complex Blood Transfusion results with appropriate interpretive comments and follow-up of overdue and pending test results. Maintain the highest professional and technical standards in the department, perform work to which you are assigned, ensuring that it meets all standards as required by accreditation bodies and to adhere closely to SOPs and to assist in putting these methods into practice and adhering to associated quality assurance procedures.

You will also be expected to be familiar with the management of cold chain and quality requirements in accordance with local standard operating procedures.

We operate a shift pattern and the successful applicant with work on average of hours per week.

Job responsibilities

To manage staff and various sections within the Department of Blood Transfusion as directed by the Operational Lead or Deputy, working in collaboration with the other senior scientific staff in providing an efficient and effective service within the resources available and to ensure the maintenance of scientific standards of HSL. The post holder will be required to work within any section of the department including core and unsocial hours as required.Main dutiesTo include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:1. To supervise various grades of scientific & support staff2. To participate in all areas of laboratory bench work, whilst adhering to standard operating procedures and participating in their regular review and update.3. Qualifications

Essential

Registration with HCPC as Biomedical Scientist AND MSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent qualification IBMS HSD, BBTS) Participation in a relevant CPD Scheme IBMS

Experience

Theoretical and practical knowledge in discipline of pathology relevant to role. Previous experience in a relevant Blood Transfusion laboratory, and proficiency in techniques appropriate to the discipline

Skills and Abilities
