The recently appointed Joint Executive Director of Corporate Affairs is building a single Corporate Affairs team to work across both organisations and is now seeking to appoint a Governor and Membership Manager across both Trusts, working closely with the Council of Governors in Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust. It is an exciting role, offering the opportunity to shape how we work across two organisations and supporting both Councils of Governors and supporting wider membership engagement.

Main duties of the job

To provide the full range of advanced professional assistance to the Company Secretary, in support of the administration and implementation of the of the Trust's corporate governance agenda in relation to the Council of Governors and the Membership at Dorset County Hospital and Dorset HealthCare

The post holder will ensure that both Council of Governors and all related sub-groups operate smoothly and effectively and in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. They will ensure that all corporate governance activities in relation to the Governors and Membership are undertaken to the highest standards of probity and according to regulatory and legislative requirements.

The post holder will prepare, plan, and deliver a broad range of complex activities as required by theDirector and Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs. This will involve problem solving, formulating action plans and establishing robust governance and assurance mapping. This role will actively contribute to establishing and maintaining good corporate governance practice across both Trusts to ensure that they comply with the regulatory framework (including legislation, its provider licence and the Trust's constitution). This includes ensuring that meetings are compliant with the Trust's constitution and are conducted in line with their agreed terms of reference. This will encompass providing support to and the development of Governors.

Educated to Degree level or significant equivalent experience in a governance role

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Recent experience of working in a governance role in complex organisation, preferably in a governance role within the NHS within specific experience of Foundation Trusts and working with Governors and Members Must be able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information; negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to groups. Experience of working with and providing advice within a highly confidential environment, including experience of liaising and operating at Chair, Non-Executive and CEO Level Ability to interpret national policy initiatives and identify the relevance to the trust and the governance agenda Demonstrable minute-taking skills, including experience of Board-level minute-taking, and extensive experience of servicing and administering high-level meetings. Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills to enable effective problem solving Strategic thinking - an ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise Significant previous experience working with people from a range of backgrounds in a customer-focused environment. Experience of event organisation.
