Edinburgh, United Kingdom Royal London Group Full time

Job Title: Technical Programme Manager

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh, Alderley Edge or London

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

Closing date: 5th June 2024

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Programme Manager to join our team at Royal London. As Technical Programme Manager, you will act as a single point of contact within a programme or portfolio and act as a representative within the change organisation. You will be responsible for the management of technology components within a programme/portfolio to ensure that desired outcomes and objectives are delivered. Your technical expertise and leadership skills will be vital in driving the achievement of our strategic objectives and ensuring the effective technical management of all programme or portfolio related activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and results-oriented individual to make a significant impact in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

As a member of the Group Transformation Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery and implementation of programmes/projects within our Protection arm of the business. You will provide transparency for senior leadership and support the organisation through complex change transformation programmes. In this role you will work cross functionally, to define a clear target state and execution plans to deliver on our strategic ambition.

About the role

  • You will initiate and set goals for the change initiative in accordance with the strategic objectives of Royal London.
  • You will be responsible for planning, overseeing and leading the technical elements of programmes, from ideation through to completion.
  • Technical project management of a key strategic initiative to deliver value to Royal London via end-to-end programme delivery for digital products, projects and programmes. This includes planning, execution and tracking for scope, financials and schedule.
  • Support senior leaders with the execution of the Transformation programmes by ensuring clear ownership, measurable outcomes and defined timing.
  • Capture programme technical roadmaps and timing for value delivery, driving accountability and coordination.
  • Resolve issues and escalate risks and interdependencies to ensure strategic initiatives are delivering the promised benefits, and that dependencies are being managed across products and projects to ensure integrity and robustness of the solution.
  • Set up, socialise and update programme metrics and dashboards at the appropriate level, providing transparency of execution progress and value realisation across the change initiative.
  • Activate executive communications and prepare executive-level materials, acting as liaison between the function and technology teams to provide transparency around the planning and progress up to executive level.

About you

  • A seasoned technical and project manager with a background in running technology programmes or technology enabled change programmes, ideally in a global insurance, financial services or consulting environment.
  • Thorough understanding of programme/project management techniques and methods. This includes driving day-to-day technical programme management activities, ranging from managing the plans, reporting, communications, meetings facilitation, content creation, risks, dependencies, finances and resourcing in a highly dynamic environment across concurrent workstreams and competing priorities.
  • Working as a team, building consensus, and influencing functional and IT leaders and other stakeholders to effectively deliver change. You will be confident with conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • Highly effective at leading a technical/software development programme and can get into technical details to clearly articulate the risks and manage dependencies across all levels of the organisation.
  • Solid technology background, with an understanding or hands-on experience in developing software, with a strong track record of managing change initiatives using waterfall, agile and hybrid delivery methods.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in order to influence customer/client situations and supplier negotiations, alongside excellent collaboration with the ability to convey technical knowledge to engineering teams and transcribe engineering concepts to stakeholders.
  • Solid and current awareness of external technology trends and best practice.
