About the role

We are expanding our Water Resources team and have an exciting opportunity for a WINEP & Permitting Team Manager. Reporting to the Water Resources & Supply Strategy Manager, you will be responsible for the daily management and direction of the Water directorate WINEP and Permitting team within Northumbrian Water Group (NWG).

You will be responsible for tracking, reporting and timely delivery of water resources Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP) schemes and the escalation of risks, ensuring actions plans are in place to support timely delivery. You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with regulators including the Environment Agency and Natural England and ensure required changes to our WINEP obligations are made through the Environment Agency Change Protocol process.

Through your clear leadership, you will develop your team to their full potential, while maintaining consistency of approach in both the northern and southern operating regions.

You will actively engage with senior leaders and delivery teams across NWG to support the successful delivery of WINEP schemes, and drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in Water Supply in support of permit compliance.

Where required, you will ensure all Water directorate operational activities have an appropriate permit in place. This will incorporate the delivery of agreed Discharge Compliance Tactical Plan interventions, the timely application/renewal of environmental permits, and development of your team to provide support to the Water Supply and Water Networks teams during pollution incidents.

About you

We’re looking for the successful candidate to have technical knowledge of WINEP and environmental permitting, and a proven track record of managing teams, preferably across different regions. You will be a proactive, data driven, results orientated leader. You will have experience of working with regulators and demonstrable track record of budgetary setting and achievement of budgets.

You will require excellent writing and presentational skills, negotiating skills with internal departments, regulators and suppliers, as well as excellent interpersonal skills with departmental colleagues, company managers and external stakeholders.

You will have a university degree in a subject relevant to this role, with a Master’s degree being useful in addition.

Demonstrating excellent problem solving skills, you will have the ability to understand and advise on WINEP and Permitting issues, and to influence across the Water Directorate.

The role will manage teams across our Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water operating regions and so will require a valid full driving licence and regular travel across both regions.
