Edinburgh, United Kingdom Unreal Gigs Full time

Are you passionate about identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact an organization's success? Do you thrive on helping businesses navigate uncertainties and develop strategies to reduce financial, operational, and compliance risks? If you’re ready to apply your analytical skills to protect and strengthen businesses, our client has the ideal role for you. We’re looking for a Risk Management Specialist (aka The Risk Navigator) to identify potential risks, create mitigation strategies, and ensure that the company stays ahead of emerging challenges while optimizing opportunities.

As a Risk Management Specialist at our client, you will work closely with teams across the organization, including finance, operations, legal, and compliance, to assess risks and develop strategies that protect the business from potential losses. Your insights will guide informed decision-making and help the company maintain resilience in an evolving market landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and Assess Business Risks:
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and evaluate operational, financial, compliance, and strategic risks. You’ll analyze internal and external factors that could negatively impact business operations, profitability, or regulatory compliance.
Develop and Implement Risk Mitigation Strategies:
  • Design and implement comprehensive risk management strategies that mitigate identified risks. You’ll collaborate with relevant departments to ensure that processes, policies, and controls are in place to address potential risks.
Monitor and Report on Risk Exposure:
  • Continuously monitor the company’s risk profile and develop regular risk reports for leadership and stakeholders. You’ll track the effectiveness of mitigation measures and recommend adjustments to keep risk exposure within acceptable levels.
Conduct Risk Workshops and Training:
  • Lead risk management workshops and training sessions for employees, ensuring that teams are informed about risk factors and the importance of mitigation strategies. You’ll cultivate a risk-aware culture across the organization.
Perform Scenario Analysis and Stress Testing:
  • Use scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate the impact of potential risks on business operations. You’ll simulate worst-case scenarios and assess the company’s ability to withstand shocks or unexpected events.
Ensure Regulatory Compliance and Risk Reporting:
  • Ensure that risk management practices align with regulatory requirements and industry standards. You’ll work closely with the compliance team to ensure that the company meets legal and regulatory obligations, reducing risks of fines or penalties.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
  • Work alongside finance, legal, compliance, and operations teams to embed risk management practices into day-to-day decision-making. You’ll help teams understand the potential impacts of their decisions and guide them toward risk-optimized solutions.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Risk Assessment Expertise: Strong experience in conducting risk assessments across financial, operational, and compliance areas. You’re skilled at identifying potential risks and evaluating their impact on business operations and financial performance.
  • Mitigation Strategy Development: Proven ability to design and implement risk mitigation strategies, ensuring that policies, controls, and processes are in place to address key risks.
  • Data Analysis and Scenario Planning: Experience with data analysis, scenario planning, and stress testing to evaluate potential risks and model different risk scenarios. You’re proficient with risk management tools and software.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to risk management, such as COSO, ISO 31000, Basel III, and others. You can ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams. You can explain complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders and ensure alignment across departments.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience in risk management or financial analysis is highly valued.
  • Certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), or Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) are a plus.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in risk management, with hands-on experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in industries such as finance, insurance, healthcare, or technology.
  • Experience working with risk management tools and software to conduct assessments, scenario analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks such as COSO, ISO 31000, or Basel III is highly desirable.

Benefits

  • Health and Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans with low co-pays and premiums.
  • Paid Time Off: Competitive vacation, sick leave, and 20 paid holidays per year.
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible work schedules and telecommuting options.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for training, certification reimbursement, and career advancement programs.
  • Wellness Programs: Access to wellness programs, including gym memberships, health screenings, and mental health resources.
  • Life and Disability Insurance: Life insurance and short-term/long-term disability coverage.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Confidential counseling and support services for personal and professional challenges.
