Dunfermline, United Kingdom NHS Fife Full time

NHS Fife has an opportunity for a clinical pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients across our Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) and in-patient Mental Health services. The post will allow you an opportunity to develop and build on your clinical knowledge, experience and expertise in Mental Health. You will gain experience in General Adult Psychiatry (GAP), Older Adult Psychiatry (OAP), Rehabilitation, Forensic, Learning Disability, CAMHS, ADHD and Intensive Care Psychiatry patients through a mix of in-patient and out-patient work as part of the integrated pharmacy service. .

The work will involve ensuring the safe, effective and economic use of medicines across care boundaries, by the delivery of high quality pharmaceutical care so patients get the best possible outcomes from their medicines, avoiding harm and waste. You will be a team worker but have the ability to act independently. You will function as a key member of the NHS Fife Mental Health Service. These would be ideal posts for pharmacists who would like to specialise in a highly rewarding clinical area and split posts with other specialties could be considered.

You will also be involved in education and training of other professionals and facilitating the implementation of local and national guidelines. You will be involved in local multidisciplinary patient safety initiatives. You should have a sound clinical knowledge and a commitment to high standards of pharmaceutical care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will be a registered pharmacist with a background in hospital, primary care or community pharmacy. Experience of working in more than one of these areas would be advantageous. It would be desirable to have previous experience of working within a Mental Health environment.

A relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience is desirable. An independent prescribing qualification or willingness to become a prescriber within an agreed timescale, is essential. You are likely to be based within one geographical locality, although applicants should be flexible and be willing to have occasional travel throughout Fife.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

Fife has something to offer everyone and has excellent transport links, being only 30 mins - 1 hour from all major cities.

Please note the job description is for a generic Specialist Clinical Pharmacist role and a detailed job plan and annual objectives will be agreed in line with strategic priorities.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Hiring Manager.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
