Derbyshire Mind's successful Crisis Support Drop-In Service operates in Buxton, Swadlincote and Ripley. These local services provide support to adults who areexperiencing or nearing a mental health crisis in a safe and welcomingnon-clinical environment.

We are looking for reliable and supportive volunteers whofeel passionate about helping people in need to help us. If that sounds likeyou then we would really love to hear from you

Main duties of the job

Hours : A minimum of one shift per week, or twoshifts per fortnight.

Derbyshire Mind's Crisis Support Drop-In Service arefriendly and supportive non-clinical crisis services for adults who self-defineas needing immediate help with their mental health or emotional wellbeing.Located in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote, the services offer out-of-hoursmental health help, support and signposting in a relaxed and comfortablecommunity environment.

Purpose of the Volunteering Role

The purpose of this volunteer role is to facilitate thesmooth running of Derbyshire Mind's Crisis Support Drop-In Service by presenting a warm and friendly and non-judgemental presence,welcoming and supporting attendees, assisting the Support Workers, and offeringsupport to help attendees engage with various calming activities.

Job responsibilities

Volunteer Shifts Available

Friday nights: to (6 hours) Saturday nights: to (6 hours) Sunday afternoons: to (4 hours)

Shifts will always include 30 minutes at the start and end of the service for setting up, tidying away, and wellbeing check-ins.

Volunteers will also be required to attend team widemeetings, and also one-to-one meetings with their supervisor, once every 6weeks.

We are looking for volunteers that can provide supportfor at least one shift per week, or two shifts every other week/fortnight.

Training

All volunteers will receive comprehensive training beforethey start supporting the service. This will include teaching you skills thatwill help you support someone experiencing emotional distress.

Access to a Car / Transport

A driving license and access to a car is necessary or the ability to get home safely forthis volunteering role as the service operates at night times and weekends whenpublic transport doesn't run or is less reliable, and we want for you to gethome safely

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Be age 18 or over. Able to attend support / training meetings that may be held on weekdays, evenings or the weekend. Willing to complete additional training as required by the role / service.

Experience

Passionate about providing a high-quality welcoming service to people experiencing distress or mental health crisis. Open-minded and able to see things from different perspectives, including respecting diverse values and beliefs, and can build a rapport with a wide range of people. Communicate clearly to others with a friendly and supportive tone, and can listen to others in a supportive, non-judgmental way without feeling the need to fix. Remain calm and professional in sometimes more challenging situations. Understands the importance of boundaries and confidentiality.
