Job summary
The Bristol Eye Hospital outpatients department is committed to continually developing our staff within the speciality of ophthalmology and we are currently looking for experienced nurse with excellent teaching, mentoring and assessment skills, to train and develop staff within outpatients department. The role supports experienced and new staff, including student nurses, work experienced to achieve their required competencies and further develop their clinical and leadership skills. It will also include teaching and do the training to nurses and ophthalmic technicians in assisting in intravitreal injections which is the one of the high demands skills in ophthalmology.
You will need to work with the Supervisory Sisters to maintain a record of achievement for the nursing team as well as Ophthalmic technician to evidence the skills and competence they have attained. You will liaise with clinical experts and the other clinicla nurse educator to deliver specialised education relevant to this diverse and fascinating specialism.
You will be well supported by the senior nursing team including the nurse practitioner within outpatients and Ophthalmic technician education facilitator in the department but you should be confident to work autonomously, plan your own workload and interact with a multi-disciplinary range of professionals.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who is well-organised, driven, compassionate and enthusiastic and flexible. You should have significant post-registration nursing experience within ophthalmology. Some self-directed study will be expected in order to maintain your own competence and ensure you are teaching and delivering best practice.
With the guidance of a Band 7 line manager- to create, develop and maintain an effective learning environment in clinical practice. To support the development and utilisation of staff development programs. Provide a support system for senior and junior staff, in order to assist their development in lifelong learning. To be responsible, in some clinical teaching situations, for the provision of care and safety of the patient Assist staff in their role in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical competencies and advancing practice. To be an expert in the area of Ophthalmology, maintain professional competence and act as a role model for staff in relation to best practice and delivery of patient care. With an evidenced based approach, develop standards of care for ophthalmology nursing.
