Job summary

To be a deputy to the Sister/Charge Nurse and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a high standard of nursing care. The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area. To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care are delivered as reflected by the unit philosophy. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

TAP Deputy Sister Lambeth Theatres

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Band 6 Deputy Sisters at Lambeth Theatres. In this role you will play a crucial part in shaping the Theatres Anaesthetics and Perioperative retention strategy and will have an opportunity to excel in professional development, leadership and management. All candidates applying for this position will actively participate in various clinical and non-clinical roles including:

1. Attending theatre scheduling meetings

2. Demonstrate proficiency in using Health Roster

3. Assisting with staff rostering, allocation and ensuring adequate skill mix

4. Possess clinical expertise in Anaesthetic/ recovery/ scrub/ surgical admission and Nurse- Led Discharge

5. Assisting with Incident report and complaint investigation

6. Support friends and family feedback and conduct audit

7. Demonstrate ability to work in a team

8. Address staffing and clinical concerns by escalating them appropriately

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Education

Essential

BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience Management qualification or equivalent experience Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality

Desirable

Leadership qualification ( LEO) Sign off Mentorship

Previous Experience

Essential

Proven experience of managing a ward; including management of rotas managing competencies, resources and staff. Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.

Desirable

Experience of clinical supervision Experience of supporting recruitment campaigns and undertaking interviews.

Skills/Knowledge/ Ability

Essential

Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives. Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners.

Desirable

Demonstrates ability to influence and negotiate with others Roster management/ allocation management Good communication skills verbal and non verbal
