Job summary

We are looking for a Band 3 Trainee Assistant Practitioner (30 hours per week) to join the Community Eating Disorder Service(CEDS) based at Wonford House, Exeter.

Experience and an interest ineating disorders is preferred and some experience of working in a mental health setting is desirable but not essential we will provide a range of trainingopportunities that will help you develop the skills you need.

This is a training post so you will be supported to complete the assistant practitioner training in order to advance to a band 4 post.

We are a dynamic and innovativemulti-disciplinary team, providing eating disorder evidence basedinterventions, assessment and advice and consultation across the DPT footprintin Devon (excepting Plymouth).

We strive to integrate psychiatric andphysical care which is essential in the managing of our complex patient needs.

We have a wide range of skills andexperience as a multi-professional team with a variety of staff groups,which include a Consultant Psychiatrist, Specialist Doctors,Dietitians, Nurses, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, SocialWorkers, Assistant Practitioners and Peer Support Workers, along with Admin support.

This role will be primarily delivering our initial psychoeducation intervention to individuals new to the service.

Main duties of the job

To support individuals through our initial psychoeducation intervention, adapting the approach and method of delivery to meet the individuals needs. To participate in clinical meetings and to work collaboratively withother colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team. To maintain appropriate professional boundaries whilst recognising abilitiesand limitations of own competence To establish and maintain clear and professional relationships with othersat all times. To liaise and work collaboratively with a range of other professionals in statutory andnon-statutory organisations agencies. Provide a high standard of written and verbal communication that is clearand in line with Trust documentation standards. To organise, plan and prioritise own workload under distant guidance of aregistered practitioner. To provide evidence based advice, guidance and consultancy to patients,family members, carers and professionals within standard protocols. Responsible for the delivery of specific care packages including assessing, planning, interventionand evaluation within standard protocols and accountable for their own actions within the delivery of this care

Qualifications

Essential

Must already hold or obtain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment. Level 3 QCF in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification. GCSE in Maths and English (Grade C or above) OR Level 2 Key Skills / Functional Skills in Maths and English. To complete Foundation Degree within 2 years of commencing employment.

Experience

Essential

Previous experience working in a range of different behaviour settings for people with Mental Health and/or Eating Disorders issues. Working with people who may present with distressed behaviours that present challenges to other services. Basic IT skills. Ability to relate to, and communicate with people who have a communication difficulty.

Desirable

Knowledge of Eating Disorders and good practice in terms of supporting and working with people with Eating Disorders and their Carers. Knowledge of a range of Mental Health presentations. Working knowledge of valuing People and other relevant Mental Health/Learning Disability documents/policies. Knowledge of safeguarding principles and appropriate action to take. A basic understanding of the law in relation to consent and capacity. Understanding of Recovery principles and Positive Behaviour Support Planning. Awareness of the Code of conduct for Health Care Support Workers /Adult Social Care Workers in England.
