An opportunity has arisen to recruit an AHP Cancer Lead within Cancer Services at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our Cancer Services receive over 26,000 urgent suspected cancer referrals per annum, treat over 2200 new cancers each year and over 4000 31 day treatments.

The role would help GHFT Cancer Services deliver a number of strategic and operational objectives for the Trust. You will work with staff across the Trust to identify, quantify, and implement new ways of working that deliver clinical and operational priorities that are clearly aligned to the Trusts strategic objectives.

Experience in working in the NHS environment is essential in this role to hit the ground running in this exciting role helping support the operational and clinical delivery of cancer services within the Trust.

The Trust aspires to deliver outstanding cancer care for the population of Gloucestershire and you would play an important part in delivering our vision of being a world class cancer service.

Main duties of the job

Work in partnership with Cancer Services and the Diagnostic and Specialities division, that oversees Allied Health Professionals (AHP's), to meet Trust and service level strategic and operational objectives.

Trust representative for AHP workforce in relation to cancer care ensuring appropriate staffing levels and pathways are in place to provide outstanding care.

To provide specialty representation, advice and guidance at strategic level to the Trust management, Cancer CPG and regionally at the Somerset Wiltshire Avon Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance in relation to Allied Health Professional work areas

Provides a visible, accessible and authoritative presence and acts as a professional role model by providing leadership and support within the multidisciplinary which include AHPs

To work in partnership with the Lead Cancer Nurse to ensure that patient pathways are designed and delivered in a seamless way to achieve the highest standards of care within the area for which they are delivered.

Job description

Job responsibilities

- Work in partnership with the Lead Cancer Nurse in the delivery of cancer patient experience related improvements to improve the experience for patients

- Support the Lead Cancer Nurse, and LWBC project team in the delivery of Living with and Beyond Cancer programme (LWBC) by facilitating cross divisional and service working to ensure best pathways in line with national evidence

- Contribute to the on-going development of the Gloucestershire Cancer Strategy, exploiting any opportunities for improvement pathways and experience for cancer patients in relation to AHP workforce

-To provide leadership in respect to using Quality Improvement tools and techniques in order to embed sustainable improvements within AHP teams in respect to cancer care

- Responsible for setting employment contracts and service level agreements for AHP roles between the Trust and Voluntary section. Macmillan Partnership, Inter Agency working.

- Initiate, develop and implement cancer policy at local level and contribute to the development of national policy.

- Undertake training needs analysis Trustwide in relation to cancer and AHP workforce exploiting any internal and external funding streams to provide CPD opportunities for AHP staff

- To regularly organise and chair meetings as required.

-Participate in Trust wide patient audits as required, monitoring standards of care and documentation in order to improve the service.

- To communicate with colleagues external to the Trust and to external suppliers, using negotiating skills to ensure the best outcome for the Trust, both for service use and financially.

-Plans and organises own workload

-Ability to readjust and reformulate plans as required to meet the tight deadlines required by managers and suppliers external to the Trust.

- To oversee budgets, pay and non-pay for defined areas. To lead ongoing skill mix/establishment review against activity and service and educational demands.

- Undertake all aspects of human resource responsibility as line manager, including recruitment and retention, sickness and absence monitoring, appraisals and performance related issues.

- In accordance with the Data Protection Act, responsibility to ensure own and staffs ability to input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer and paper-based system and that accurate and contemporaneous patient and staff records which meet all statutory requirements.

- To participate in the process of the development and implementation of cancer related Trust AHP policy and strategy.

Essential

Thorough knowledge and experience of AHP services Experience of quality improvement methodology and implementation Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate on highly complex matters and difficult situations

Desirable

Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations

Qualifications

Essential

Allied Health Professional qualification and extensive experience. Current registration with the appropriate professional body Educated to degree level or equivalent

Desirable

Educated to or working towards masters level in a relevant health related field.
