Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered.  In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

The Manufacturing Engineering department provides innovative solutions to Process, Re-Engineering and Continuous Improvement projects or issues, with Packaging Engineering team being r esponsible for driving the resolution of manufacturing material changes or issues.

Your unique contribution

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for driving the resolution of manufacturing material issues and championing product value, quality and efficiency throughout the full product lifecycle.

This includes project managing all aspects of Quality, Manufacturing, Capex, Sourcing, Supplier and Customer Service packaging material projects ensuring on time and to budget delivery whilst minimising obsolescence.

You will have four main areas of responsibility:

  • Project Management – to manage and deliver interdepartmental and complex group directed projects, from brief to implementation, including Value Engineering opportunities, manufacturing based issues, product line moves, resolution of customer complaints, delivery of Customer Services requirements and validation of supplier-initiated specification changes. 
  • Improvement & Optimisation – to manage complex technical projects for process and system improvements impacting packaging, utilising your technical expertise to optimise bottling performance.  You will follow sustainability and DtSV framework to build and deliver optimised CoGs and functional packaging by premiumisation level.
  • Manufacturing Change Support – to investigate line quality issues and causes of poor material efficiencies and to manage regular line trials and implementation of critical packaging specification changes.  You will provide key input to line moves and liaise with internal departments to coordinate BOM’s, capacity, component specification and performance related to any product move of line.
  • Collaboration – to support capex engineering projects for new equipment, product line moves and ensure material supply is designed for labour optimised autonomous bottling lines.  You will also liaise with suppliers for long term quality or production issues to ensure root cause corrective actions related to all aspects of material specifications are identified.

Who you’ll be working with

Internally , you will collaborate with the wider Engineering team as well as other areas of Manufacturing, including Continuous Improvement, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Bottling, Vatting, Quality, Health and Safety and New Product Development as well as other functions such as Finance.

Externally , you will collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure delivery of services to the highest standard.

Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you:

  • Have experience in a manufacturing / FMCG environment with an understanding of change management.
  • Are commercially aware with the ability to build a business case with cost / headcount and cost of goods / financial analysis.
  • Can lead cross functional multi-disciplinary teams both internally and externally and are able to persuade others and influence change.
  • Hold a full, current UK driving licence.
