Working as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) the Haematology Specialist Nurse will act as an autonomous, professional clinical practitioner. They will be responsible for providing specialist nursing services, as available within the cancer speciality.
The Haematology Specialist Nurse promotes clinical excellence and provides specialised advice and support to patients, carers and staff and to external partners. This must be in line with national trends and national strategy, ensuring specialist practice is patient centred and evidence based.
The Specialist Nurse will report to the Senior Cancer Nurse to ensure they contribute to the directorate and Trust strategic service development plans.
The Specialist Nurse will be expected to facilitate nurse led clinics.
They will also be required to work autonomously conducting Holistic Needs Assessment at key points in the patient pathway.
Main duties of the job
To support, by demonstrating exemplar nursing practice and the implementation of evidencebased care, the provision of a high standard of individualised patient care and experience,upholding the Trust Nursing Strategy which includes the 6Cs. Responsible for ensuring own knowledge and compliance of appropriate NMC standards and Trust professional guidelines and that these are applied to practice, including NMC Revalidation Ensure accurate and contemporaneous patient, staff and other records are maintained, submitted and stored meeting NMC requirements. Develops knowledge and skills to support discussions surrounding diagnosis, treatment optionsand other issues pertinent to key stages within the cancer pathway, ensuring that services aredeveloped and reviewed

Develops excellent communication skills to facilitate discussion of complex, sensitive and emotive issues around cancer diagnosis, disease management, recurrence/progressive disease and prognosis and refer to other practitioners when a patients individual health outcomes are beyond own competence. Manages the care of patients with a suspected/confirmed diagnosis of a cancer, providingspecialist advice within a defined clinical area and assists in the follow-up of patients following a cancer diagnosis. Counsel, educate and empower patients and carers regarding management interventions, treatment options and care. Including explaining potential side effects of treatment and explaininginformation regarding life style adaptations Sun protection advice. Assess, potentially highly complex, patients, planning, implementing and reviewing care within the hospital environment, both in-patient and out-patient, community or other settings, liaising with external agencies as appropriate Using holistic needs assessment, develop care plans, and implementation strategies through shared decision making with patient and carer.Please see the attached job description for full information
