The Great Western Hospital are recruiting a Locum Consultant to join our Oncology Department on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

This role is within the department of Medical Oncology the appointed candidate will join an existing team of 6 senior medical staff including Consultants & SAS doctors. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues. The Trusts Health and Wellbeing team has won a National Award during 2020 for the work they have done locally.

There are no on call requirements for this consultant post.

Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior medical and nursing colleagues from oncology and other hospital subspecialties as well as allied health care professionals.

The oncology department is located within the main building of the Great Western Hospital. Outpatient clinics and our two day therapy areas are co-located, with flexibility around clinics including virtual templates encouraged. In 2023 the trust has seen a brand-new state of the artradiotherapy centre, run by neighbouring Oxford University Hospital Trust. This enables Swindon's patients to access radiotherapy and specialist services closer to home. The cancer services within the trust operate within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance.The post holder will be supported by a share of onsite experienced oncology secretarial support and have access to a laptop/desk area and IT support for all systems used within the trust.

Job responsibilities

The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.Clinical Duties:Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues

Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)

Development of sub-specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activityProvision of cover for Consultant colleagues periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policyParticipation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstancesThe post holder will not participate in an out of hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section.
