SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Denton, Tameside

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Denton, Tameside. This full-time role begins in December and runs through to the end of the academic year, with potential for permanency based on performance. Weekly pay is between £419.25 and £500.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will work closely with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), providing essential support in both academic and social settings to ensure they reach their full potential. This role involves both classroom support and one-on-one assistance, adapting to students’ unique learning requirements and contributing positively to their educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • In-Class Support: Assist students in the classroom with tasks and learning activities, adapting materials to meet individual needs, and ensuring students stay engaged and participate in lessons.
  • One-to-One Assistance: Work directly with students who require extra support, focusing on their specific learning goals and helping them develop strategies to overcome barriers.
  • Individual Education Plan (IEP) Support: Implement IEPs and provide feedback to teachers and SENCOs on student progress, suggesting adjustments as needed to ensure consistent development.
  • Behavioural and Emotional Support: Help students manage their emotions and behaviours in a constructive way, encouraging positive social interactions and coping strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Maintain records of students' development and interactions, noting progress, milestones, and areas for improvement while adhering to safeguarding practices.
  • Resource Preparation: Assist teachers in creating and organising resources tailored to SEN students’ needs, ensuring materials are accessible and engaging.
  • Group Activities: Facilitate small group activities that encourage collaboration, social skills, and peer support among SEN students.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Work with classroom teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to provide a comprehensive support network for students, maintaining open and regular communication regarding progress.
  • Family and Caregiver Engagement: Provide updates and insights to families and caregivers, building a collaborative relationship that supports students both at school and at home.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Background in SEN Support or Teaching Assistance: Experience working with young people in an educational or SEN environment is beneficial.
  • Patient and Adaptable: Ability to respond to a variety of needs with flexibility, understanding that each student's progress may look different.
  • Empathetic and Supportive: Able to build trust with students, showing empathy and compassion while encouraging independence.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Effectively engage with students, families, and staff to support each student's learning journey.
  • Organised and Proactive: Capable of managing time and responsibilities effectively while being proactive in seeking ways to further support students’ needs.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding: Committed to upholding a safe and supportive learning environment.
Position Details:
  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity for permanency based on performance.
