SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Denton

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Denton. This full-time role starts in December and runs until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity for the position to become permanent based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 - £500 per week, depending on experience.

Role Overview:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who experience social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your focus will be on helping them access education, develop coping strategies, and improve their emotional well-being within the school environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable students and have a background in SEMH, psychology, youth work, or similar fields.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 1:1 Support: Provide tailored, individual support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage in lessons and manage their emotions.
  • Group Interventions: Lead or assist with small group sessions aimed at building social skills, emotional resilience, and improving behaviour.
  • Behaviour Management: Work closely with teachers to manage challenging behaviour in a positive, consistent manner, ensuring a productive learning environment.
  • Pastoral Care: Offer emotional support to students, helping them manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges that may impact their academic performance.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and support staff to ensure the appropriate interventions are in place.
  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons, with a particular focus on students who need additional support to stay engaged and focused.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure that students are safe and that their welfare is prioritised, following school safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
  • Building Relationships: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them feel understood and supported in a school environment.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Someone with a background in SEMH support, psychology, youth work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with young people who exhibit challenging behaviour or emotional difficulties is highly beneficial.
  • A caring, empathetic, and patient individual who can help students navigate their emotional challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and work closely with teachers and other staff members.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies, and a commitment to upholding these standards.
  • Someone who is proactive, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a dynamic school environment.
Position Details:
  • Start Date: December
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week (depending on experience)
  • Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the potential to become permanent depending on performance.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
