Job summary
As a band 5 staff Nursewithin the Outpatients team you will work alongside a well established team of colleaguesto facilitate the smooth running of clinics with in the appointed times.
Treating patients according to their individual needsand prescription, acting as their advocate.
Therole will also require the supervision of the nursing team on a day to daybasis, referring to the department manager when necessary and will require sometime taking charge of the department inthe absence of a senior member of staff.
Main duties of the job
Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to work asa Band 5 Staff Nurse within a well established General Outpatient Service basedat DMH . The department provides medicaland surgical specialist clinics. You will have excellent communication skillsand an ability to work well as part of a team or independently where required. As the Registered Nurse on duty you will beexpected to manage the day to day running of the department in the absence ofthe departmental sisters, and supervise junior staff and students whenrequired. The role would suit aRegistered Nurse with post-registration experience which can be utilised withinthe clinic setting.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Toprovide nursing assistance and technical support within clinics.
To provide advice topatients with in the department enabling optimum treatment, via telephoneenquiries and through health promotion information and/or information leaflets.
Teaching new skills topatients to manage self-care.
Dependent upon experience,act as a mentor to students.
Supervision and training ofunqualified and newly appointed staff.
Ability to respondappropriately, giving support to distressed patients, relatives and carersduring and following consultation.
Supervision of the nursingteam, referring to the department manager where appropriate.
Demonstrate a workingknowledge of the Trust Personnel and Health and safety Policies.
To carry out and supervise prescribedtreatments having evidence based knowledge, and ensuring patient informationconsent, to gain optimum recovery/ patient compliance.
