We are looking for an enthusiastic Staff Nurse to join theteam in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Outpatient Department at Darlington MemorialHospital.
Clinics run between Monday to Fridayand mornings only at the weekends. Our team comprises of Registered nurses,Health Care Assistants, Orthopaedic Consultants, Registrars and Physio Practitioners.Our service provides a mixture of fracture and elective clinics and we care forpaediatric and adult patients. We work closely with the X-Ray department andthe plaster room. We also run adressings clinic for trauma and post operative patients each morining.
Main duties of the job
To provide and maintain a high standard of evidence based,patient centred care. To demonstrate good interpersonal skills and to developpractical skills required within the speciality, whist reflecting thephilosophy of care.
To deliver patient care on a daily basis, using the systemsin place in the department for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centredcare delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement ofpatients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and publicinvolvement strategy.
Experienced Band 5 post holders will alsoprovide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the department, in theabsence of the senior members of the team, which empowers staff to deliver patientcentred evidenced based nursing care.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
To be an integral member of the Trauma and Orthopaedic OutpatientDepartment team. Prioritising and managing outpatient clinics in a professionalmanner. Liaising with the Multi-Disciplinary team, patients & relatives.Communicate sensitive clinical information with patients, relatives and carersin a way that takes into account the level of understanding and any barriers thatmay have an impact on the individual receiving and understanding theinformation, face to face and via the telephone on a frequent daily basis.
Acting as patients advocate, ensuring that the patient hasunderstood the consultation and the plan of treatment, and has had theopportunity to voice any concerns or questions. Provide supporting literatureandverbal advice as required. Escort patients to other wards or departments,completing necessary documentation, giving comprehensive explanation to patientand handover to ward staff.
To provide advice, guidance andsupport to HCAs, learners and newstaff working within the department.Multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds onthe philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers byusing the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy.
