Job Purpose

The Specialist Functional Safety Product Engineer shall be experienced in safety related product development and have control system/automation software domain experience.

Job Responsibilities

Playing a key role in a multidiscipline team working on a safety related control system product development. Developing the product in accordance with IEC 61508 compliant and TUV approved Functional Safety Management plan. Creating product requirements specifications and be able to share the understanding among product development disciplines i.e., Software, Electronic and Electro-Mechanical. Using requirements management tools to capture, manage and trace requirements. Develop safety concepts and strategies to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks. Liaise with product development disciplines to ensure product requirements are understood and discipline designs are compliant with the product requirements. Analyze system architectures, identify safety requirements. Participate in product safety analysis i.e., FMEA, FMEDA, FMECA. Ensure Safety products comply with IEC 61508 Follow-up and be able to interpret and apply industry standards (e.g., API 17A, 17F etc.) to the design and development processes, ensuring adherence throughout the lifecycle of a product. Define validation or test cases based on the Functional Safety requirements/criteria. Support in Verification and Validation activities as per TUV approved V&V plan. Responsible for performing Design reviews. Discuss technical safety and reliability aspects with the Customer and internal engineers and provide decision support.

Competence Requirements

Master’s degree within relevant subject areas. Relevant experience may compensate for lack of formal education. Experience within functional safety in the energy sector or other industries. Familiarity with applicable standards, rules, and regulations for Safety products. Product development experience. Project execution experience is an advantage.

Additional Skills

Experience:

Experienced in product functional safety development and certification activities. Experienced in control system designs and familiar with operational aspects. Experienced in sensor technology, logic solver, electrical boards. Practitioner in using requirements management tools like Polarion, Jama, IBM Doors. Certified practitioner in application of IEC 61508. Experience may compensate for lack of certification.

Knowledge:

Safety engineering knowledge appropriate to the application for E/E/PE safety related systems. About the complex mix of hardware, software, human factors, and safety management systems.

Personal skills:

Strong team player with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Passionate about control system product development The ability to work strategically, but also focus on details where relevant. Drive, tenacity and positive attitude to innovation and new experiences. Good communication skills; ability to explain concepts to other engineers. Good communication skills in both written and spoken English. Ability to work independently but also in teams.
