Job summary

To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff for the HPV Specimen Reception team.

To be responsible for monitoring performance, setting objectives and identifying training needs for the HPV Specimen Reception team.

To manage HPV Specimen Reception services (HPV SR) at St Peter's Hospital, directing them in the most effective and efficient process to meet service needs.

To provide support in the management of effective communications both within the HPV Specimen Reception team and throughout the HPV primary screening service.

To ensure the provision of daily and weekly workload statistics for HPV Specimen Reception team in a timely fashion as required by the laboratory management team and to contribute to the production of the Key Performance Indicators

Main duties of the job

To organise, participate in and carry out staff appraisals in accordance with the ASPH appraisal policy.

To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff for the HPV Specimen Reception team.

To be responsible for monitoring performance, setting objectives and identifying training needs for the HPV Specimen Reception team.

To participate in BSPS and ASPH disciplinary procedures as appropriate.

To ensure that appropriate personnel records are kept to include annual leave, sick leave and mandatory training in accordance with ASPH policies.

To be responsible for ensuring that all staff in the HPV Specimen Reception team work in accordance with BSPS and ASPH policies governing dress codes, use of PPE and behaviour in the workplace.

To be responsible for development of their own personal skills and abilities making full use of appropriate internal and external training resources.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To manage HPV Specimen Reception services (HPV SR) at St Peters Hospital, directing them in the most effective and efficient process to meet service needs.

To attend and contribute as a senior member of staff to BSPS and departmental meetings, helping to formulate policy and procedures and prepare business plans as required.

To provide support in the management of effective communications both within the HPV Specimen Reception team and throughout the HPV primary screening service.

To participate and represent pathology Support Services in the budget setting process of the department in order to plan for future service needs.

To ensure compliance with BSPS financial instructions and to act as an authorised signatory for staff pay and expenses.

To ensure the provision of daily and weekly workload statistics for HPV Specimen Reception team in a timely fashion as required by the laboratory management team and to contribute to the production of the Key Performance Indicators.

To support the quality team by performing and assessing audits to assist with the ongoing process development of HPV Specimen Reception team systems working closely with other senior members of the Cytology laboratory team to produce the data.

To use good time management to organise required tasks within own role in order to achieve all targets.

Educated to 'A' level standard in English and Mathematics Staff management including recruitment, training and performance monitoring. Excellent experience of specimen reception management and supervision Experienced and competent in managing big workload from different hubs

To be able to analyse and communicate highly complex data from the incomplete lists monitoring our turnaround times and present it to management for their meetings with NHS screening programme and recommend any improvements needed to maintain good turnaround times for the department Competent in using the BSPS LIMS system (Winpath Enterprise), Open Exeter, ICE Ability to manage staff effectively in line with appropriate BSPS & ASPH personnel policies and procedures. To ensure the provision of daily and weekly workload statistics for HPV Lab in a timely fashion as required by the laboratory management team and to contribute to the production of the Key Performance Indicators
