Job responsibilities

TheSenior Nurse Manager (SNM) will work as an integral part of the LocalDelivery Management Team. The post holder will be responsiblefor ensuring that the operational and performance management of the urgent carefunction which may include rehabilitation services (where configured in theLDU), and other core services within the urgent care pathway. They will ensurethat the work of clinical staff is to the highest standards of evidence-basedpractice, implement quality and safety standards and the development ofclinical pathways. You will be required to provide efficient and effectiveday to day management in the delivery of clinical care, ensuring best use ofresources available for people with serious mental illnesses in the acuteperiod, and their care. You will be expected to provide a high level ofmanagerial and clinical supervision to staff from a variety of professionalbackgrounds to ensure that a high quality of care is provided at all times. Thepost holder will have performance management responsibility & ensure alltargets are monitored and met which includes routine and ad-hoc reporting

The SNM will ensure that clinical process takeplace in line with practice standards, this will include assessment, planning,implementation and review and that robust and consistent risk managementprocesses are in place across the LDU. They will be responsible forthe management of resources to deliver services which meet the requiredfinancial, performance and quality standards which will feed into theDirectorate Governance assurance process via the LDU reporting structures. Youwill promote a culture based on the principles of recovery, choice andpersonalised care. Patients and key supports/carers will be invitedto take an active role in decision making about their treatment and care andtheir involvement is welcomed as part of ongoing service development.

The post holder will proactively seek and engage the supportof the governance teams in the Compliance and Corporate Development directorateto gather information as required. The post holder will build an understandingof and adhere to the CQC guidelines as well as the Trusts guidelines on theapproach to maintaining CQC registration.

Preventionand Control of healthcare Associated Infection

The post holderis expected to comply with Trust Infection Control Policies and conductthemselves at all times in such a manner as to minimise the risk of healthcareassociated infection.

Smoking

The Trustoperates a non smoking policy. Employees are not permitted to smoke anywherewithin the premises of the Trust or when outside on official business. Staffmust also be mindful of public perception and must therefore not smoke whilsttravelling in Trust identified vehicles or when can be identified as DevonPartnership Mental Health Trust staff.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Experience of healthcare management or equivalent. Experience in the assessment and formulation of Care Plans, Assessment and Monitoring of Patient Care. Experience in the development, management, co-ordination of staff and services. Experience of liaising with other disciplines, agencies and providers to assess, deliver and monitor services for clients in an Inpatient setting. Experience of teaching or delivering training. Experience of providing supervision and appraisal. Previous experience in a leadership role. Experience of undertaking audits. Experience and proven track record of managing unit budgets. Management of proven service development and quality improvement.

Desirable

Experience of working within Urgent and Inpatient Care Pathway. Management and leadership experience within Urgent and Inpatient Care Pathway.

Qualifications

Essential

Professional Registered Nurse (Mental Health) Degree, or equivalent experience. Registration with the NMC.

Desirable
