This role presents a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to contribute to the Medical and Cardiac Physiology teams, delivering high-quality care to both in-hospital and day-case patients. Simultaneously, the candidate will undergo specialised training in transthoracic Echocardiography, working towards achieving British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) adult accreditation

The post holder will contribute to delivering high quality evidence based clinical care working autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of the relevant consultants. Applicants must have achieved a Post Graduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies.

You will be supported with a thorough induction and will have an individual mentor to ensure that development needs are achieved. Research and Audit is actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To conduct daily ward rounds with the medical team, review patients and formulate appropriate clinical plans.

To ensure continuity of high standard of care, assessing the health needs of the patients and taking appropriate actions including:

Ordering of diagnostic tests, making and receiving referrals and discharging patients within agreed protocols.

Independently perform and interpret adult transthoracic echocardiograms

To provide advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis through to treatment.

To accept responsibility for own caseload, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care recorded, which reflects the assessments undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made, ensuring clear documentation in the patient's records.

To be actively involved in in-patient care, liaising with ward staff and other members of the clinical team as appropriate.

Job description
Job responsibilities

To conduct daily ward rounds with the medical team, review patients and formulate appropriate clinical plans.

To ensure continuity of high standard of care, assessing the health needs of the patients and taking appropriate actions including:

Undergo comprehensive training in transthoracic echocardiography.

Work closely with the Cardiac Physiology team to gain practical experience in echocardiographic assessments.

Aim to achieve British Society of Echocardiography adult accreditation within a three year timeframe.

Align with one of the cardiology Clinical Service Units to develop a focused area of interest and expertise.

To provide advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis through to treatment.
