About You

Reporting to a Senior Scientist, you’ll enjoy developing applications of ultra-stable interferometry - from the dissemination of ultra-stable and ultra-accurate signals, to detecting earthquakes with seafloor optical cables.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

Essential:

Demonstrable laboratory experience - planning, designing and running optical experiments with the ability to identify problems, then propose and implement solutions. Experience with fibre optics. Practical and recent experience with laboratory electronics A PhD in a photonics-related subject (such as Fibre Optics, Optical Fibre Sensing, Laser Stabilisation, etc.) or equivalent experience. We may also consider strong candidates with a BSc in a relevant area (such as Physics or Engineering) Proven experience coding for experiment control and data analysis using one or more of these languages: LabVIEW, Python, or Mathematica Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts Team player with a proactive, never-fail attitude in the face of ambiguous situations Desirable: Practical knowledge of feedback systems (PID controls) Knowledge of frequency metrology concepts (frequency stability, Allan deviation, phase noise, etc…) OFDR / OTDR knowledge
