GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is looking for an individual with a passion to support the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of young people to join as a SEMH Teaching Assistant in our secondary client schools.

Job summary:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work closely helping students overcome barriers to their education.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your key responsibilities are to:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counsellors, and other support staff.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, essential requirements are:

  • A recent degree or specializations in special education, psychology, social work or a related field that is particularly relevant for SEMH teaching.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges of students.
  • An updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
