SEMH Teaching Assistant Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team in Newcastle. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs in their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to develop coping strategies and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to create a safe and nurturing environment for students, promoting their emotional and social well-being.
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and promoting a positive learning atmosphere, encouraging student engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with teachers and parents, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed.
Requirements:
  • Experience working as a SEMH Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude, with a commitment to promoting student well-being and success.
  • A relevant qualification or experience in education or mental health support is desirable.

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or completing an application for a new check.
