Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a practice educator based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) to support nursing practice and development on the Older Persons Admissions unit.

The successful candidate with support of both the Matron and the Ward Leads for OPAU will help develop and take forward the current and future educational plan for OPAU to meet the educational needs of the existing teams, and in preparation for the move into the new Unit, and throughout this transformational phase. The applicant will be dynamic and passionate about nurse education and development. This individual will be committed, show initiative and have a proven ability to self-motivate and work autonomously when required. The applicant will have proven management and leadership skills, and would be expected to oversee a broad competency programme to ensure an appropriate skill set for staff working within this acute environment.

This role requires an active UK NMC Registration

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be expected to work closely with all clinical staff, new and existing, supporting and assessing them in clinical practice, assisting the Ward Leads in meeting the developmental needs. The candidate will, with the Matrons and Ward Leads, plan, organise, facilitate and implement training programmes/ study days/action plans and provide feedback.

The candidate will have the ability to support and assess practice, and be flexible within their working pattern and approach to be able to reach and support all staff.

The candidate will have experience within elderly care, possess a degree and have excellent communication skills to work collaboratively at times with other practice educators within the Trust. The candidate would be supported and encouraged towards further development in achieving a formal teaching qualification.

Job responsibilities

To provide educational support in order to provide highly specialist nursing care support to acutely unwell patients on the Older Persons Admissions Unit, interpreting test results precisely and accurately, make judgements and recommendations on the findings.

Act as a resource for staff in this speciality Elderly Care Admissions Unit, offer expert tuition, support and guidance to nursing staff caring for acutely unwell patients and their families, sharing extensive knowledge of specialist conditions with others. This role demands expert knowledge gained through extensive clinical experience.

To act as a role model both educationally and clinically ensuring standards are met in clinical practice. To be professionally accountable in clinical practice without direct supervision.

To be highly skilled and dextrous, working with technical equipment.

To have the technical expertise to act as a trainer for medical devices and equipment, training nursing staff to ensure safety and competence in practice, thereby addressing issues of clinical risk.

Essential

NMC registration adults- minimum 1 year.

Desirable

Teaching and assessment qualification.

Experience

Essential

Experienced band 5 nurse. Experience as a registered nurse within acute care. Experience in supervising and facilitating both pre- registered student and staff nurses in practice.

Band 6 nurse
