Main duties of the job

We wish to appoint a post CCT Fellow in Interventional Radiology. This post will be based in the Radiology Department of Southampton General Hospital. Candidates will be able to develop their area of sub-specialty interest within IR and will be encouraged to be actively involved in research and audit. There will be a requirement to provide some cross cover and a weekly service commitment that will vary. The candidate will participate in the senior SpR on-call rota for the first 6 months of this post after which they will participate in the Interventional Radiology on call rota as 1st on.

ABOUT THE TEAM The team consists of; 7 consultant interventional radiologists, supported by an excellent team of nurses, radiographers and support staff. There are 2 dedicated IR theatres, and we share a Hybrid theatre with vascular surgery, cardiology and thoracic surgery (IR access 3 of 5 days). There is a separate dedicated Neuro IR unit with 2 theatres and 2 fluoro rooms for general use. Most patients come through our 6-bed radiology day unit.

Within the team we provide a comprehensive gamut of intervention including peripheral vascular, aortic, venous, nonvascular, HPB, urology, gynae, embolotherapy and interventional oncology work. There is an element of subspecialisation within each area along clinic and MDT lines with an expectation of maintaining all core IR skills necessary for comprehensive emergency cover and a healthy amount of cross over.

WHAT YOULL DO

Participate in the day to day running of the IR department with provision of all aspects of vascular and non-vascular IR Provide on-call as 1st on IR on call including vascular and non-vascular interventional emergencies 1 in 6. Fulfil a daytime duty role interacting with referring clinicians and managing the inpatient, acute and emergency IR workflow in the region of 1 in 6. Work flexibly within the group. Actively engage in departmental audit, research, and educationThe job also involves some general abdominal radiology including CT and US and CT/US guided intervention in addition to subspecialist imaging.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule ( additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary - MT04 £55,329 Basic Salary MT05 £63,152

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5; Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training

Hold relevant higher specialty exam ( FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
