Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and flexible Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our established team of nursing staff based on Willow Suite Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.

The role involves providing care and support to in-patients currently experiencing acute mental health difficulties requiring an inpatient admission.

Commitment to meeting the needs of people with mental health problems and valuing their rights is a pre-requisite.

You will be required to adopt a flexible working pattern and be committed to self development and training. There will be the prospect of undertaking an NVQ and Health Care Worker Certificate.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) is a key member of the multidisciplinary care teamand will have continuing responsibility to:

Deliver an effective and competent level of care under the guidance and supervision ofthe Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and as determined by the patient's care plan.

Be fully aware of the needs of patients over a 24 hour span of care.

Monitor, report and maintain a healthy, safe and secure workplace

Adhere to Trust policies and local service protocols.

Professionally accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing.

Operationally accountable to the Matron / Clinical Service Manager.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

Consistently delivering a patient focused service, which promotes optimum independence.

Offering appropriate support and advice to patients and their carers.

Awareness of different challenging situations where communication needs to be adapted to theneeds of the individual.

Enabling patients to maintain and improve their independence by promoting and facilitatingtherapeutic activity.

Giving physical health checks and physical health care as required or instructed documenting thephysical health checks on the early warning scoring system (MEWS), chart and reporting changes tothe nurse/healthcare professional in charge.

Undertaking day to day tasks as allocated by Nurse/healthcare professional in Charge.

Undertaking all relevant training as directed and participating in regular management/clinicalsupervision and appraisal.
