Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician

Principle Accountabilities
- Follows all Safety Rules. Participates in monthly 100% Safety Participation Program
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment both in the maintenance shop and in machine-side work areas
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by undertaking preventive and reactive maintenance activities. This involves:
- Understanding the design and operation of equipment by pro-active familiarization. Reading and correctly interpreting engineering specifications, design drawings, operations manuals & manufacturer's instructions
- Problem solving. Identifying incorrect equipment operation and locating sources of error. Observing equipment in operation and by selecting and using appropriate test and measurement instruments.
- Making running adjustments to parts of devices and control instruments to ensure correct function
- Undertaking repairs to defective parts, in-situ or remotely in a workshop setting.
- Removing defective parts by dismantling devices; by hand, with power tools, using hoists and cranes as appropriate
- Fabricating repair parts where appropriate, by using machine shop equipment
- Installation and correct set-up of replacement parts
- Undertakes condition monitoring activities
- Identifies unacceptable wear - determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspection, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other accurate measuring instruments
- Tracks, and determines changes in, other condition-indicative characteristics using appropriate equipment, techniques and methods (e.g., wear state of bearings using sound-level or vibration analysis, thermal imaging and precision alignment measuring techniques)
- Ensures the integrity and correct functioning of machine guarding, interlocks and safety devices
- Supervisees and monitors routine preventive maintenance tasks by production operatives
- Prepares maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing equipment and services down-time information and trends
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories. Anticipates needs for equipment, parts, and consumables supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipts
- Management of logically arranged and accessible storage for inventories of equipment, parts, and consumables inventories
- Maintains technical knowledge by proactive continuing professional development: attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks
- Provide support for machine installations, including lifting and placement, leveling and alignment, connection of services (power, air, water)
- Perform other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
- HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
- Time served maintenance technician with 5 years related industrial maintenance experience or equivalent
Required knowledge, skills and experience
- Mechanical installation and fitting - machines fixing in location, leveling and alignment, machine sub-assembly and mechanical modification
- Electrical installations and wiring - practical familiarity with European and international standards and installation practice
- Practical knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical/electronic motion control systems. Specific experience with troubleshooting and repairing motors and drives.is essential. Specific experience with Allen Bradley motor drives is desirable.
- Practical understanding of PLC systems - ability to interrogate, identify and correct errors. Specific experience with Allen Bradley is desirable
- Practical experience with industrial robotics - Specific expertise with FANUC SCARA robots and multi-axis palletizing robots is desirable
- Web handling experience would be desirable - specific knowledge of tension measurement and control systems and devices is particularly desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
