Main duties of the job

Support the Clinical Director of South East London Cancer Alliance, Cancer Directors and Clinical Leads of GSTT, KCH and LGT develop trust strategies in line with the aspirations of the NHS long term plan for cancer, including the identification of key objectives, priorities and work streams within the National Lynch Syndrome initiative in the first instance. Develop a Clinical Strategy and framework for embedding genomics across multiple complex pathways across LGT and KCH to build capacity, expertise and sustainability for the identification of individuals with inherited cancer predisposition. The primary focus of this role will be within the Lynch pathway. Lead and project manage the transformation projects operational and business planning requirements, including a clear set of guidance, specification of clear timescales and a set of templates to ensure consistent levels of quality in divisional / directorate/Trust/National responses Take responsibility for providing expert cancer genetic counselling within the SELCA footprint across multiple organisations through MDTs, working groups and Genomic Tumour Advisory Boards Responsible for devising a training framework using Lynch syndrome as a pilot that can be leveraged by other mainstream specialities. Identifying gaps in the patient pathway, suggesting solutions and working with all stakeholders to progress Lynch testing for better patient care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work across multiple organisations and footprints to formulate, implement and deliver clinical pathways within cancer care. They will deliver excellent professional genetics leadership across the cancer alliance and all the trusts within it including leading on the development of strategy, clinical practice and service redesign where required. Working closely with senior leadership of the South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA), Guys & St Thomas Clinical Genetics Service as well as Kings College Hospital (KCH) and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT). The primary aim of this role is to champion the national Lynch syndrome initiatives and embed end to end pathways for point of care testing. They will also be responsible for the day to day management of a sub-team of staff within this transformation project working across KCH and LGT. The post holder will contribute to the organisation and development of the key priority areas within the SELCA geography helping to deliver key strategic, business and national objectives and act as a significant educational resource, both to the wider health care system and clinicians accessing genomics. Contribution to the research and audit activities as well as actively delivering the mainstreaming agenda will also be expected. The post holder will be a role model for emotionally intelligent working and embrace and leverage the experience and expertise of peers and all stakeholders.

Detailed knowledge of the UK healthcare sector and its regulation, including the national genomics agenda within cancer, encompassing an understanding of the operating environments of the whole care pathway

Able to motivate senior individuals to make significant changes to their working arrangements and services in order to deliver greater value.

Experience

Extensive professional clinical experience as a Genetic Counsellor, including experience at a band 8C/8D level (NHS experience would be advantageous). Refer to AGNC career structure.
