Main duties of the job

West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit caring and committed individuals for our Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services contracts in Coventry & Warwickshire.

The main purpose of this role is to safely transport patients with varying mobilities to and from treatment centres or other venues as directed. This could include manual handling of patients, the care of patients and assisting patients, as well as driving.

Some patients may need to be carried (including stairs), wheeled in a chair or a stretcher and escorted to and from the vehicle.

The safe transportation of these patients is paramount to the role. This includes securing patients, wheelchairs, stretchers etc in the vehicles.

You will be required to drive a variety of vehicles, including cars, ambulances and other vehicles. Please check the Person Specification.

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, applicants are required to cover the cost of the check. Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Carry out required vehicle and equipmentchecks.

2. Be prepared to work flexibly toensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and dignified manner

3. Work within Contract SpecificQuality Standards and ensure a high level of customer care (These standardsvary from contract to contract and will be available at your base)

4. Ensure effective communicationwith the Control Centre, by telephone or electronic means

5. Transfer patients using equipment andskills specific to individual needs

6. Provide effective care to patients,appropriate to their requirements using available equipment.

7. Transport patients safely andconsiderately this will include pre-planned and ad-hoc journeys.

8. Ensure patients have a safe, smoothjourney, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving withconsideration for other road users.

9. Maintain full and accurate records andreports, including Patient Transport Records, Accident Reports, and IncidentReports etc. These may be both paper and electronic.

10. Ensure vehicles and equipment are keptin states of cleanliness and readiness.

11. Undertake required training to maintainacceptable standards and quality of care.

12. Maintain a current valid driving licence.

13. Adhere to corporate Instructions andPolicies, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures andother verbal or written instructions.

14. Perform other tasks in keeping with the post as required by supervisorystaff and managers.

Qualifications

Essential

Good standard of general education with a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including English or be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification within the first 12 months in post

Full clean manual driving licence (showing no more than 3 points)

Experience of working within a public service or customer care environment. Experience of driving a variety of vehicles
